Debenhams Reveals Men are Buying Shapewear as New Year's Resolutions Fail

Debenhams has announced that as many diets and gym plans fall by the wayside, body conscious British men are snapping up shapewear in a bid to win the battle of the bulge, according to recent research.

In recent weeks, sales of men's control pants and mens t-shirts???? (http://www.debenhams.com/men/tops-polos ) have soared at Debenhams, with purchases of sculpting t-shirts up 317 per cent, sales of bum lifting pants up 238 per cent and elasticated waistbands going up by 340 per cent at Debenhams, post-party season.

Of the 1,000 men surveyed*, 64 per cent were worried about the 7 pounds of weight they piled on over Christmas, with moobs (man boobs), love handles and flabby bums causing the most concern.

Dominique Rock, spokesperson for Debenhams said, "As the cost and effort of the gym kicks in, instantaneous figure fixers are proving immensely popular with men as a cheap fix alternative.

"Shaping t-shirts and pants also require a lot less willpower than a carefully controlled diet, something that women have long been wise to."

For the first time, research showed that men and women are almost equally committed to improving their shape in the New Year with 48 per cent of men starting a new fitness and/or dietary routine in January, compared with 55 per cent of women.

Rock added, "Responding to customer demand, Debenhams has developed products designed to pull in tummies, lift bottoms and smooth love handles specifically for men. When you can lose pounds in seconds, it's no surprise they are selling so well.

"Gone are the days when the only way to fight the flab was confined to the gym. Canny blokes now have access to the tricks of the trade that women have been using for years."

Global Market for Knit Underwear and Nightwear to Reach US$70.85 Billion by 2015, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

The intimate apparel market is driven mainly by style, and fashion with equal importance accorded to comfort, and novelty. The industry is marked by new fabric developments, and innovations in prettier, and more comfortable garment designs. The growing trend towards innerwear worn as outerwear has been richly beneficial to the lingerie market. The introduction of camisoles in trendy colors and T-shirts with built-in bras bear testimony to these trends. The market nevertheless is confronted with a mixed bag of opportunities and challenges. For instance, fierce competition has resulted in falling prices and a threatening shift of production to low-cost countries. In developed countries, aging population is pushing down growth opportunities. On the other hand, developing regions, hold immense potential for future growth, given their favorable demographics, rising standards of living, growing affluence and widespread adoption of Western lifestyles. Manufacturers are therefore fast expanding their business operations into South America, Central Europe and Asia. The lingerie market is in a state of transition, as both global brands and private-labels are re-assessing their respective market positions. Consumers in this segment generally tend to purchase more than necessary. Impulse purchases are rampant, and purchase decisions are typically based on feel-good factors, instincts, style and fitting rather than sheer necessity.

Ever changing consumer lifestyles, latest trends in fashion and style and innovations in fabric usage are the major factors driving the market for knit underwear and nightwear. Product markets expected to score the maximum gains in the upcoming years include seamless intimates such as seamless bras and panties, given consumer's desire for seamless and imperceptible undergarments. Demand for plus-size inner wear is rapidly expanding in Western markets. Stores now offer suitable lingerie to customers who earlier depended on specialists for customized innerwear clothing.

Akin to several other industries, the global economic crisis affected the world market for knit underwear and nightwear during the years 2008 and 2009. Mature, developed market of North America, Europe and Japan bore the maximum brunt of the economic instability, with sales slipping during the period. In contrast, the developing economies brushed past with marginal losses in sales. Surprisingly, the children's wear market witnessed the largest erosion in 2009 followed by the men's wear, with the market largely remaining afloat due to optimistic outlook in women's wear clothing. Nevertheless on the whole, the niche underwear and sleepwear market was more resilient to the economic crisis than the larger clothing industry and rebounded back on growth track by the year 2010, although at a slow rate of growth. Some of the notable changes the industry witnessed during the recessionary years included the influx of several retailers rendering the mark Tips: Find Street Fashion Online(may be you can find what you want on the oasap.com) et more fragmented; market polarization of the luxury segment and increased popularity of the concepts 'exact fit' and value-for-money. The economic crisis considerably narrowed down the gap between the upper and lower end of the market as style differentiation almost vanished.

Europe dominates as the single largest regional market for knit underwear and nightwear, as stated by the new research report on Knit Underwear and Nightwear. The US and Asia-Pacific are the other two significant markets, trailing at a distance behind Europe. The three markets capturing a considerable share of the global market, literally set the rules and market direction. The Asia-Pacific market remained buoyant even during the economic recession, and supported by rapid growth from markets of China, India, Korea, Indonesia and Taiwan among others, is projected to register the overall fastest CAGR through 2015. By product segment, the global women's knit underwear and nightwear market is considered the most vibrant and dynamic, carrying the growth ahead even when sales in other segments plummeted. In the near term too, the segment is forecast to sail ahead at the fastest compounded annual rate through 2015.

The global Knit Underwear and Nightwear market is highly competitive and fragmented, with no single dominant player in the market for any national or worldwide brand. The market is characterized by the presence of numerous large and medium players vying fiercely for a share of the pie. Private label players also enjoy considerable clout in the market. Key participants profiled in the report include Benetton Group S.p.A, Bella Di Notte S.L, Berkshire Hathaway, Fruit of the Loom Inc., Cia Hering, Calvin Klein Inc., Delta Galil Industries Ltd, Donna Karan International Inc, Gunze Ltd, Jockey International Inc., Joe Boxer, Maidenform Brands Inc, The Bali Company, Triumph International, Tefron Ltd, Warnaco Group Inc, Wacoal Holdings Corp, and Wacoal America Inc, among others.

The research report titled "Knit Underwear and Nightwear: A Global Strategic Business Report" announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of current market trends, product profile, overview of apparel industry, intimate apparel dynamics, product innovations, recent industry activity and profiles of market players worldwide. Analysis and overview is provided for major geographic markets such as United States, Canada, Japan, Europe (France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain and Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Rest of World. Market analytics are provided in value (US$) terms for product segments including Women's Knit Underwear and Nightwear, Men's Knit Underwear and Nightwear, and Children's Knit Underwear and Nightwear.

Royal Wedding Expert Announces Release of Kate and William Bride and Groom Dolls

Stephen Church, managing director of Royal Wedding collectibles retailer Church's China, reports that Arklu, Ltd., makers of the highly sought after Princess Catherine Engagement Doll, will also be releasing Will and Kate dolls in their official wedding clothes.

Church says, "To my mind, this pair will have an even greater appeal than the Princess Catherine Doll. Arklu is known for attention to detail, so I'm sure the wedding costumes will be exquisite real life replicas of what Kate and William actually wear on the big day."

Church has already pre-ordered 500 of the 10,000-piece limited edition collectible dolls, which will be available in early summer. Customers can pre-order the pair by contacting The U.K. Gift Company, the online sales division of Church's China, at reservations@theukgiftcompany.com. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Church's China and The U.K. Gift Company have been overwhelmed by customer response to the limited edition Princess Catherine Engagement Doll that became available just last week. Church says he has sold out of all but 35 of the dolls. Only 10,000 of the Limited Edition Princess Catherine Engagement Dolls have been made.

Church adds, "The orders just keep coming in. This is a really popular item, particularly in America. One U.S.-based customer ordered six of the dolls!"

Church attributes the popularity of the doll to Kate Middleton's emerging role as a world fashion icon. Appropriately, the doll itself is adorned with the work of seven of Britain's hottest fashion designers.

The Princess Catherine Engagement Doll stands approximately 12 inches in height and retails for $48.96 at http://www.theukgiftcompany.com, the online sales division of Church's China.

She is decked out in designer fashions from her headpiece down to her shoes. Her royal blue silk Jersey dress, resembling the now-famous frock Kate wore when announcing her engagement to Prince William, was created by made-to-order cocktail dress designer Pussy Willow. She carries a representation of the Aspinal of London-made Eaton Clutch bag owned by Kate Middleton.

Her cubic zirconia-encircled amethyst ring is a replica of the life-sized "Io" ring created by internationally-recognized jewelry designer Babette Wasserman. Beatrix Ong, one of London's most acclaimed young shoe designers, created the doll's shoes. The doll's distinctive fascinator-style hat is the concept of milliner to the stars Katherine Elizabeth.

However, the appeal of this collector's item goes beyond high fashion. Church adds, "What our customers really apprec women's jackets online iate about this particular piece of Royal Wedding memorabilia is that part of the proceeds will benefit Help for Heroes, an organization that is serving a very critical purpose given the current level of conflict in the Middle East."

Approximately $1.70 from every sale will be donated to Help for Heroes, a British charity launched in 2007 to aid wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan, Iraq and other areas of the world where war exists. Prince William is one of the charity's supporters.

Established in 1858, Church's China sells a wide range of china and other collectibles. Specializing in royal commemorative memorabilia, the company has locations in Northampton and Market Harborough, England as well as an online division, The U.K. Gift Company. The UK Gift Company was recently nominated as one of five finalists in the "Best Online Retailer" category of the 2011 Great Awards, which celebrate the best in gift retailing in the U.K.

SpanGlish Global Co-Founder & CEO Rico Cabrera Builds a House on the Billboard Music Charts

Artists of the major independent record label are featured in this month's Billboard Magazine's centerfold, and the company's Co-founder & CEO Rico Cabrera manages to stay on top of the emerging music game. Cabrera is also getting his feet wet in projects with networks from Nickelodeon to MTV Tr3s. Many industry insiders and veterans have been impressed with the works of Cabrera and SpanGlish Global's success. Carlos Stephens, a multi-platinum producer, who was the brains behind the music operations for No Limit Records, stated: "When I met Rico for the first time. No Limit came to my head immediately. I patched in 'Beats by the Pound.'" Stephens produced at least one song on 53 albums that No Limit Records released. Stephens, known as "Los Beats," with 75 million records (RIAA Platinum) sold and counting, spoke to Cabrera and noted that he would "see him very soon," says Richard Victor Mahee, Mahvrick Networks. "It's just about time before we see SpanGlish takeover the whole Latin market," stated Morgan Brown, entertainment critic and entrepreneur, who co-founded an independent music development house, Pickup Music, at 16, and long time songwriting collaborator of Stephens. He went on to say, "I have encountered many independent music companies and artists in my career, but the SpanGlish team, right now, is on top, there is no one like them, no independent comes close to their level of true, authentic talent and well rewarded successes."

Cabrera's recipe for success is simple, he's doing so many things right! The SpanGlish CEO has a firm trajectory that makes his company flourish in their target market and beyond. From chart breaking artist acquisition, tour buses, to production facilities where Grammy Award winning artists from all genres come to record. There is not one specific reason why this company is so successful other than Rico Cabrera's ability to think big and fill his own shoes.

Rico Cabrera owns "SpanGlish." Literally. He trademarked it. SpanGlish Global's music videos (and behind the scenes) reach millions of people on Mun2, Htv and MTV Tr3s. The videos of Telemundo Reality Show TV Star, Danny D Xtreme and artist/producer Maffio have millions of plays on social networking sites such as, YouTube. Their videos feature and have broken the 'Most Beautiful Women Worldwide' in the Latin world. Spanish networks like Mega and Univision have Jennifer Lopez (JLo), Eva Longoria and Alejandra Gutierrez. SpanGlish Global has taken on and done the same with developing cross over Spanish/English actresses and models, such as, Belkys Galvez recently featured in Danny D Xtreme's new video, and Maria Gonzalez one of the worlds most beautiful Latin models. Albanian music sensation Ledi and super model sister Aida Vokshi are also in discussions on an international tour and media plan with SpanGlish Global's executive team.

The Electronica Spanish music that Maffio Alkatracks, SpanGlish Global Co-founder, Artist and producer (owner of AlkaTraks Entertainment), created on his keyboard as an under financed kid, wanting to be a music producer has become a recognized genre "Merengue Electronico." Today in conjunction with SpanGlish Global they are a powerful team. Maffio has videos with over 17 million plays; the song "Mi Alma Se Muere" by Fuego & Omega featuring PitBull (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouEUzraahgY), Produced by Maffio has been on the Billboard Latin Charts for 3 years running. The revenue streams for the growing company are built on familiar brands. No major label in the market is competing.

Mahee sat with Jose Feliciano, writer of Feliz Navidad, several times over the past year. Jose educated the entrepreneur on how massive the Spanglish market has become. Mahee took notes. Mahvrick, Founder Richard Victor Mahee became the Director of Marketing SpanGlish Global as to develop an integrated media platform, leveraging Internet, Television and Wireless networks for the various properties including and outside of music. The "Network" they call it is built to market alongside the developing talent and RIAA Multi-Platinum artists working under the SpanGlish Global umbrella. SpanGlish and Mahvrick are working with Gary Reeves the mastermind behind corporate sponsorship and joint ventures. Reeves, was the go to guy for Jamie Foxx, and Blair Underwood. Together the team is wor women's jackets king with KG Stores on marketing products in store like Blair Underwood Suits (BU Collection) and a slate of made for television films produced by Mark Burman. Spanglish Global Empire consists of more than music: Reality TV, video game theme songs (Chairman Platinum), Luna Rosa Tequila, AyParty energy drink, Protein Shakes, a self titled clothing line, music and now made for television films. Music is only the catalyst for selling their talent's passion for the Spanglish family lifestyle. "Spanglish Global is the new No Limit. Their artists and producers are proven and have love and respect for Rico Cabrera their Co-Founder," Says Mahee.

Be Fore Warned, Golfers Need To Protect Against Exposure to Ultraviolet Rays

In just fifteen minutes, dangerous UV rays can damage unprotected skin. Too much time spent outside without adequate protection will reveal itself with age spots, deep wrinkles and even skin cancer. And, skin cancer is the number one type of cancer for both men and women. Over 90 percent of skin cancers are caused by excessive exposure to damaging rays. Sun damage occurs over a long period of time and it can take years for the problems associated with it to surface.

The average time to play a round of golf is three to four hours, but it can stretch to five to six if the group is a foursome and if the course is crowded. One thing for certain, at least a portion of the round, if not all, will be played during the peak hours of UV (ultraviolet) radiation which runs from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.

Before the teeing off, remember these five rules:

  •     Wear a hat with a brim of at least three inches. The bigger the brim, the greater protection for the face and neck.
  •     Wear sun protective clothing. UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) sleeves, gloves and dickeys are available and made just for golfers.
  •     Seek shade under an umbrella or tree. With a 62 inch arc, a UPF golf umbrella will keep you 10 degrees cooler.
  •     Apply and reapply a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect against UVA and UVB rays. Try and play early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid peak hours.
  •    &nb fashion jackets online sp;Be mindful of reflective rays from water hazards and sand traps. Wear UV protective sunglasses to protect the eyes.

New Brands Introduced to Huge Audiences by Playing the Flash Sale Game

According to recent polls, fashion deal seekers are less concerned about brand name, but more interested in low cost styles that are still fashionable. Fashion flash sales offer the perfect platform for up and coming brands to gain market share, while limiting their exposure to the pitfalls of traditional marketing tactics.

Deep discounts on fashion and accessories can be found on these flash sale sites, but finding the best deal is cumbersome for consumers. RetailFetish.com has simplified the process by allowing consumers to quickly browse all the daily deals within one site and customize the information they receive through daily emails based on their specified interests.

Smaller niche products are able to gain traction through a flash site aggregator due to the volume of consumers flooding the websites and being able to choose from multiple options of clothing styles. Unlike traditional fashion flash sites, RetailFetish consolidates fashion flash sites into one platform and is looking to expand their retail database by more than 50% by the end of September.

As flash sale sites are gaining in popularity, new women's coats brands are readily able to be exposed to huge audiences in very specific demographics. New or smaller brands are able to compete with veteran fashion brands, and level the playing field in competition bringing the best prices and fashion to consumers.

RetailFetish.com is a fashion deal aggregator that pulls the latest deals from the best online shopping sites for both men's and women's clothing sales. RetailFetish features over 20 retailers including all the top flash sales sites like Gilt.com, RueLaLa.com, Fab.com, Indeeli.com, HauteLook.com, JackThreads.com, BeyondtheRack.com, TheFoundary.com, MyHabit.com, plndr.com, FreshShades.com and many others. Users may select men's fashion sales or women's fashion sales and are only alerted when there's a deal that they might actually be interested in purchasing.

For more information on the different brands offered or to start your free account, please visit RetailFetish.com.

Author Marian Medd Paints the Evolution of Women’s Undergarment Collections

Informative and creative, A Peep Into the Past is a combination of art and the evolution of women's undergarment fashion throughout history. Artist, Marian Medd, having worked in the retail industry for many years, combines her knowledge and her natural talent in drawing in this one-of-a-kind book. Preserving the memories of several undergarments that may women's coats have been forgotten and lost in time, this selection brings to life the various styles of the past, which were greatly affected by economic, political and social considerations.

From defining the early decades of the 20th century, to the first decade of the 21st, A Peep Into the Past reveals a comprehensive background on how women have been adjusting to the constantly changing trends of their times, especially in clothing. This book explores the intelligent patterns of how undergarments have been designed throughout several eras.

Aside from the artistic aspects, the author reveals a fascinating look into the technical and practical basis of how women's undergarment products were made. A very specific example is how, during the rise of women's liberation during the World War I, the restrictions of the Victorian era wasp-waisted corsets were abandoned and replaced by more comfortable clothing. This change gave women more freedom to move around, whilst replacing men in the workforce.

Accentuated by colorful and beautifully drawn illustrations, this book is a rich arsenal of knowledge, allowing readers to appreciate the benefits sought from their modern world. At the same time, it shows the message of how today's society provides more options to women than to the restrictive cultures, traditions and circumstances of the past.
For more information on this book, interested parties can log on to http://www.Xlibris.com.au.
About the Author
In 2002, upon retiring from working many decades in the retail industry, Marian Medd had found the time to develop her interest in drawing and painting. This shift from the shop floor was mediated by a brief period of learning to work with pastels. She then decided to expand her knowledge as she wished to explore using different mediums. This took her into the world of painting with acrylics. She also attended many classes over several years studying and drawing. She has not had a solo exhibition, but over the past decade, she entered works into Local Council exhibitions and also the "Cossack" exhibition conducted annually in the North West of Western Australia. She has sold several paintings which are in private collections. For the past two years, she has been working on this book A Peep into the Past, which portrays a history of garments in unique colours and in style.

The World's Best Kept Secret, Krakow and Zakapane, Poland

As a former flight attendant, I've visited all European countries except Albania and Poland. Poland is Europe's 5th largest country. Aside for Lech Walesa, Copernicus, the Pope and a decade of Polish jokes I never understood, I knew nothing of this land. However, my interest peaked because it will soon be hot on the tourist trail and because my Chicago husband's family is from here. He accompanied me with a sense of delight in discovering his roots. I went to become educated and enriched by something new. We flew from Atlanta via JFK and Warsaw to Krakow for a mere 4 days. No rest for the weary with a head spinning itinerary. I prefer to visit cities in the off season to mingle with the locals. It provides a more authentic and intimate atmosphere.

On airport arrival, we're cheerfully greeted by Pavel who will be our driver throughout. He holds a welcome sign "Suza Davis". I say, "Hi, I'm Suzy from Atlanta." I chuckled when he responded, "Yes, downstairs of USA." We checked into Hotel Amadeus, a 16th century posh inn in the heart throb of town center. Prince Charles once bedded in our room, I'm told.

We set out to hunt for dinner. The illuminated Old Town was stunning and filled with so many young people, it made me feel elderly. 150,000 students reside in this university town. Krakow is Europe's premier party scene where they stay out until the birds sing. This historic district holds highest concentration of bars and restaurants in the world. We suddenly discovered Pierogi Garden, home of the freshest Polish dumplings. They were stuffed with sauerkraut, lamb, beef, berries, chocolate and even peanut butter. There were 6 types of soups, all with beets which I abhor. After a dozen dumplings, I had a melted ewe's milk cheese pancake which was beyond delicious.

Poland experienced countless invasions throughout its history. After being ravaged by the Germans and then the Russians, it finally achieved independence in 1989 with the collapse of Soviet communism. Krakow was wired for destruction near the end of WWII by the Germans. They planned to blow it up once the Russians took over, fortunately the war ended hours before the plan was carried out.

Today it remains one of the few cities remaining in its original form. With a population now of 780,000, it has morphed into a trendy international capital. Vibrant and modern yet somehow retains its traditional culture with regal architecture. It is in Krakow where one finds the spirit of the new Poland.

On day 2, we were greeted by Anna who was strikingly beautiful. We began in the web of cobbled streets in Old Town that was meant for walking. It was a maze of museums, chapels, galleries, cafes and hole in the wall pubs. Even in winter there was entertainment with street dancers, mimes, accordion players and on one corner, I watched a knight in armor break-dancing.

We entered Market Square, Europe's largest medieval square where little has changed since 1257. It is crowned by the Bell Tower where a bugler plays at the top of the hour. It drives the residents crazy at night. A must see is Cloth Hall where fishmongers, cloth merchants and bakers have sold their wares since the 14th century. Now it's a fabulous arcade of handicraft stalls.

We walked to the well preserved Jewish Quarter which is now edgy with artistic character. Poland once held Europe's largest concentration of Jews at 3.5 million. Poland's kings during the middle ages noted they were being expelled elsewhere and invited them in to augment the economy. Here they thrived until the holocaust and forced communism after WWII. There are now only 180 left. We viewed the ghettos where Spielberg's famed movie was filmed and looked across the river to see Schindler's factory.

Rick Steves writes that one must visit a milk bar here. Anna escorts us to one of these government subsidized cafes for the working class. They are a holdover from Poland's communist past. Everything is astonishingly cheap. I ordered a bowl of homemade soup and cheesecake for $2.

We then visited Wawel Castle, a 12th century masterpiece and defining icon of the city's pride. There were no queues as we walked its corridors of history. This was the residence of kings for 500 years. Anna explains its legend of the fire breathing dragon named Smok here who ate virgins for breakfast.

This was bolstered by the discovery of strange large bones in the 1400's. (The bones are actually whale bones as this area on Europe was once under water eons ago.) The dragon thus became the symbol of the city and is omnipresent in souvenir shops. Anna then nudges us inside various beautiful churches, for me always as boring as paint by numbers, however they were exquisite. I ask if there are any Protestants here. She replied matter of factly, "Yes,one."

The afternoon was spent on restaurant and hotel inspections. I loved the formal greetings and it's always educational. I learn about local cuisine and accommodations in the best location for the best price. All hotels were fully booked. Jews and Catholics visit year round on religious pilgrimages or come for roots tours.

Krakow was recently rated in the top 10 European destinations. I now see why. Americans continue to rave over Prague which I now find passe with inflated prices and lower standards of service. It's become as expensive as Rome. Eventually, Krakow may do the same once Poland converts to the Euro in 2012. For now one can splurge with affordable prices. Europeans flock here for 50-70% savings. Germans and Danes in particular come for dental and optometry needs. Medical tourism including plastic surgery is booming. I met an Austrian flight attendant who fly's in monthly for spa treatments at half cost.

At night we dined at Wierzynek Restaurant, the world's oldest that has served princes to tourists since 1364. It was delicious peasant cuisine (organic) of wild boar, roast ribs and heaping mounds of potatoes. I ask them to teach me some Polish, a Slavic language that is as impossible as a mouthful of alphabet soup. The word toilet has 5 syllables.

On the third day, we awoke to a gray, cold and wet day which gave us the appropriate ambiance for what we would see. Pavel drove us 60 km to Auschwitz. We were greeted by Yuri, our brilliant personal guide whose sole passion was to enlighten us on the unthinkable tragedies that took place here from 1940-45. I once visited Dachau, but this was the largest of concentration camps. This death factory killed 1.4 million people of 27 nationalities. Most were Jews. The others were gypsies, Soviets, Poles, gays, political dissidents and more.

We entered the gate reading, "Work will set you free." Inside was a powerful reminder as we viewed the crematoriums, starvation cells, kilos of hair, endless eye glasses and a pond still gray from ashes 60 years ago. Most sobering to me was the children's section. It held a sea of tiny shoes, dolls and meticulous German documentation of 230,000 little ones who suffered and died here.

We were driven to the extended camp of Birkenau (Auschwitz II), with its wooden barracks built to house 100,000 but eventually held 200,000+. Together in silence, the three of us walked a half mile to see the ruins of the gas chambers and memorial monument. At the end of our tour, Yuri said goodbye to us with this profound statement, "I've guided several holocaust survivors who visited here like tourists. They told me at the end that I am not able to present 1% of how bad it really was." This was the most emotional touching site my eyes ever beheld.

Late afternoon we visited the famous Wieliczka Salt Mine. This mysterious and vast underground city 3 miles long has extracted salt for 800 years. The World Heritage Site draws a million visitors per year and it looks as though they all arrived today.

Our guide Justina seemed to have an obsession with salt, but it was merely the love of her job as guide. She said to follow her down 836 steps which was a better work out than a Stairmaster. Caves bore me, but this site will remain etched in my mind forever. Imagine underground chapels, ornate sculptures, chandleries and life size figures carved entirely from salt or a restaurant and a post office 380' below street level. It was spectacular. For centuries miners and horses spent their lives here. They remained healthy in this rich micro-climate. It has to do with magnesium ions, whatever those are? Today people come to the healing chambers of the treatment complex for isolation in natural air purity.

Day 4. I continually search the globe for unique things or places to present to fellow travelers. Today I found it in Zakapane. For years now, a friend of mine insisted I visit this mountain resort with the funny name I could never remember. We drove to the pure air of the Tatra Mountains with Eva, our expert guide that day. She said this adventure destination of 60,000 residents swells to 200,000 nearly year round. In summer they come for mineral spas and Alpine hiking. In winter they come to ski. That week Zakapane hosted the International Ski Jumping Competition.

Here was a charming town of artists and Giorake, an ethnic group of mountain highlanders. These wandering shepherds trace back to the 15th century. They love to dress in their colorful clothes for tourists. They live on cheese or anything smothered in cheese. We visited a cheese market the size of Switzerland. As far as my eyes could see, there were sheep and goat cheeses artistically sculpted into every shape conceivable. We also toured the Aqua Park with an Olympic sized mineral hot spring mineral pool and rode cable cars high into the mountains for breathtaking scenery.

It was a most productive and enjoyable day tour. I found a local tour company that arranges fun activities for groups such as horse sledding through the forest, dog sledding and the new "snow rafting" in rubber rafts sloshing toboggan-style down the mountain. At the huge outdoor market with countless ethnic stalls, I purchased a striking leather and fur coat for $260 that fashionably looked 6 times its price.

There's so much I didn't get to see on this short visit. On my next return, I'll do the new "Crazy Communism Tour." Outside Krakow is Nowa Huta, once a severe socialist suburb of forced industrialization. Massive steelworks factories overtook the rich farm land. Doctor and professors were sent here to work. Miles of concrete tenement blocks were erected to house them.

On tour you can discover experience firsthand Stalin's gift to Krakow by riding in a classic East German Trabant car out to Nowa Huta. A dinner of salted bread, pickles and vodka is included, followed by dancing at a retro 70's era disco.

Under the yoke of communism, the Poles refused to give up their religion. Stalin said, "Implementing communism here is like saddling a bull." Faced against such a determined spirit in the people, he gave up. I"m amazed at all the obstacles this stoic country has overcome.

If you've been ther women's coats e and bought the t-shirt of London, Paris, Madrid or Athens, I encourage you to visit undiscovered parts of Europe. Krakow is destined to become the next Prague. It oozes with history, friendly faces, hearty cuisine, and it won't break your pocketbook. If you can visit the new Poland, please don't tell anyone about Zakapane, one of the world's best kept secrets.

Be cautious to laser treatment

Many of the aged have some moles on their faces, which does have an influence on one's feature makes one look uncomfortable. With the advancement of economic level and the popularization of the conception of hairdressing, some patients want to eliminate moles through laser. Laser treatment has many advantages in removing the pigment nevi on face. Compared with traditional surgery, it marks by merits of convenient operation, short-time operation, no bleeding, no cross infection, no pain after the surgery, no need of sewing and stitching, and so on. That makes it especially suitable for elimination of pigment nevi of some bleeding patients and special parts of the body. However, much undesirable effect would occur in case of abuse of laser treatment.
The serious influence on the face is secondary pigment changes of topical skin, such as pigment motting, pigment decreasing, patches of pigmentation, fleshy scar, limited skin atrophy, introcession, topical inflammation, postponing healing of surface of wound and so on. There are also people who confront pigment nevi again three months after the laser treatment. This kind of recurrent nevi grow faster with deeper color. Besides, minority of people whose skins are especially bad with scar pigment nevi would meet with topical scar hump, get itching and prickling no matter they take surgery or laser treatment as long as they get injured. And the scar even spontaneously increases. As a result, experts warn the public that you should be cautious to laser treatment. If your nevus is malignant tumor, laser treatment is apt to cause transmission of cancer cells with an unbearable aftereffect.
Because some nevi are not ordinary nevi but melanoma also called malignant dark-pigments, which are a kind of malignant tumor originating from formal dark-pigment cells or original nevi cells of the epidermis on the often rubbed areas such as face, hand, neck or waist. Its malignant degree is quite high with rapid spreading speed and bad effect. A blind attemp of laser treatment causes transmission of cancer cells most easily. According to the report home and abroad, about 40% to 50% of the melanomas spring from malignant change of the pigment nevi, which should be attached importance to.
Types of the pigment nevi that are suitable for laser treatment:
1. Freckle is very common in cheeks and noses. Also, it can spread onto the whole face even the neck with the size from needlepoint to rice grains and the color of brown. It has a lot to do with inherent cause. People with this kind of character would befall freckle under some circumstances, such as solarization, dryness of the skin and so on, especially in summer.
2. Tattoos are caused by growing pigment into dermis on a manual basis or by the entry of lead and scrap iron because of injuries.
3. Ota normally has the symptom of gray-blue variegated plaque on the upper part of one side of the face. Even the sclerotic coat of the eye will be gray-blue with the pigment deep into the dermis.
4. Senile wart(fat-soluble keratosis): People in old age would come forth some hazel, brown or black flattened and slightly ridgy wishy-washy knots or lumps, which are called age pigment, senile wart or fat-soluble keratosis as well. Its occurrence generally arises from abnormal changes of the skin or has something to do with inherent cause. It won't disappear naturally while it will increase and become larger gradually. The position that receives plenty of solarization such face and the back of hand has lots of senile warts.
5. Light coffee speckle commonly goes with people when they were born with irregular shapes and light brown plaque.
6. Most of the melanotic nevus appears after the age of puberty steadily with couples to tens. Its size ranges from needlepoint to rice grains. You can find the brown or black flat speckle or protuberant papula mainly in your face or neck..
The nevus spilus listed above can be cleaned out through laser while the number of the treatment depends on the depth of the pigment. For example, ota usually needs to be treated many times every 3 to 6 months. Coffee speckle or freckle that is very light usually can be solved by laser treatment only for one time.
Attention must be paid to the following on laser treatment.
1. Topical area don't need application or enswathement after the pigment nevi on face are removed. Apply 2% gentian or penicillium ointment twice daily.
2. Avoid touching face-washing water, getting wet, sweat and so on in case that the wounds are caused wetness and infection affecting healing.
3. Scabs would peel off themselves after healing. Don't force to shell them to make the surface smooth and lustrous. If scabs still don't peel of women's jackets f after a month, you should go to hospital to clear scabs artificially.
4. You must choose a formal hospital for the laser ablation of the pigment nevi. The treatment should be performed by medical professional people. Don't accept exaggerated declaration of some advertisements. Especially can't visit those people without a license in case of a pity of spoiling the appearance.
